Museum of Art

Cory and I found ourselves with a Saturday afternoon free...at the same time...for once in our lives.  We decided to go to the Museum of Art.  They have a new exhibit called "We Could Be Heroes".  Supposedly it is a representation of heroes, villains, monsters, and mythical creatures in history and American culture.  We took lots of pictures, so if you read this you basically don't have to go to the exhibit.  Outside the entrance they have the Loch Ness monster coming up out of the snow.  I could tell this was going to be good.

Here is Cory in the Hall of Heroes.  It was a small room dedicated to explaining what we would be seeing in the exhibit.  There was this glass case full of action figures and dolls of various heroes and monsters.  I would classify Cory as a hero in this picture.

There was also a giant mural on the wall that I guess had mythical weapons and armor depicted on it.  I don't quite remember any of them. I think one was the sword of Laban.  Needless to say though, it was a large wall.

Here I am with baseball's version of the Silver Surfer.  In the background you can see a huge inflatable blue Alice in Wonderland.  We didn't really know what that was all about.

I had seen this painting before, but I always like it.  We noticed that Superman is the only male in the painting.  Granted though, we couldn't quite tell what gender the Flash is....the mask and all...

This was probably the weirdest/most interesting/most disturbing part of the exhibit.  IF A CHILD IS READING THIS DO NOT PROCEED FURTHER!!!  So clearly this is Captain America holding the disembodied head of Saddam Hussein.  I couldn't tell what the artist was trying to convey, because the description mainly talked about John the Baptist...  I guess I am not a deep enough thinker.

Cory really liked this piece.  It is St. Teresa with a kind of Medusa theme. There was a gun in her hair, paint tubes, flowers, and who knows what else.

Here is Cory posing with Bigfoot.  He was actually very very realistic in person.  It was a little creepy getting up close to him.  I almost thought it was going to be a prank and he was going to start moving.  He didn't though.  I mean...it didn't though.  It's not real.

What better way is there to end this post?  I submit there is none.  Clearly James Bond and I have striking similarities, including, but not limited to, our uncanny ability to drive women crazy.  Well, at least one woman...hopefully.

Uno

Cory and I like to play games together.  We play the card game "Uno" and it can get competitive.  Here is a play by play of tonight's round:

Cory had two cards left, and I had three.  She played one of her cards and appropriately shouted, "UNO!"  Usually when one of us only has a single card left, the other tries to change the color and guess which one the potential winner does not have in their hand.

This particular round was no different.  After her shout, I started to play a wild card I had in my hand.  Before I could lay it down though, Cory, in a spirit of friendly competition, started waving her card in my face while chanting, "You don't know what this is!  You don't know what this is!"

In her excitement of being on the cusp of victory, she must have flexed her finger muscles a little too vigorously, because the card bent between her fingers and then rocketed across the table and landed in my lap.  Blue 6.

There were a few moments of silence.  I looked up at Cory and we just stared at each other.  Then we erupted into laughter.  I changed the color to yellow.

Like Dominoes...

My former roommates are falling like dominoes into the holy institution of matrimony.  Shane was the next to follow my lead. (I'm such a trend-setter)  He and his sweetheart Jenna were married on January 19th in the Mount Timpanogos temple.  It was awesome.  It was fun to see Shane's family, and translate what they were saying to friends who had never met them before.  Cory couldn't be there because she had to work a huge bridal fair in Salt Lake.  This was unfortunate for two reasons: 1. I have gotten used to Cory being with me, especially at big events, and I just don't like flying solo anymore.  I carpooled  with Joseph, but it wasn't the same...   2. She wasn't there to snap candid pictures like at Joseph and Abbey's wedding, so I don't have any pictures.  So I just stole one from Shane's Facebook.   The happy couple!

Once they get more pictures that prove I was actually there I might post them.  Besides the decision to get married in the temple, the greatest choice they ever made was to have a luncheon reception at La Jolla Groves at the Riverwoods.  It was absolutely amazing.  Every piece of food that entered my mouth was pure joy.  I'm talking nectar of the gods here people.  Anyways, one of my precious memories of the day was when the fathers were saying a few words.  Jenna's dad gave a great little speech, and then Shane's dad said, "Well I think it's about time we started eatin'!"  (laughter)  This was followed closely by, "Ya'll wouldn't understand anything I said anyway..."  That was only one of many classic Cason quotes from the day.

Congrats to Shane and Jenna!

Sant

The new year started on a sad note.  My best friend from high school, Sant McCann, tragically chose to leave this earth on December 30th.  The first weekend in January I was able to attend the funeral back in Montana and say a few words at the service.  It was a bittersweet moment to see his family and friends from my high school years.  Having things hit so close to home can give you a different perspective on things.  You aren't supposed to lose close friends so young.

Happy New Year!

2012 was a great year!  Cory and I were sealed together forever, and we are looking forward to a great 2013 filled with happy memories!
